What is reConnexions ?

The reConnexion Collective

our mandate
The reConnexion collective are dedicated to creating opportunities, empowering youth and creating new or adapted work that is universal and represents the Greater Toronto Area. We strive to provide accessible/affordable programming within GTA communities. reConnextions believes that every person has a voice worth hearing and we aim to represent that in our work.  We challenge society in this ever evolving world to be open for change and learning experiences while balancing/maintaining the self, history, love, and beliefs that we all have that make us who we are: Human.

who we are
We are theatre & live performance practitioners (actors, poets, arts educators, etc). The collective is made of 3 core members, as well as project and associate members. The core members provide structure and stability through dealing with everyday admin, grant-writing, creating partnerships, etc. While project members propose and/or lead projects, and associate members facilitate projects, with all members staying connected to the reConnexion network through bi-weekly email updates

what we do
Join us for one idea, one day, one project or more!
In 2009, we began connecting Toronto’s youth with the professional live performance community. We are a project-run collective focusing on culturally diverse work. We are open to creating workshops and programming within community and social service settings. We also find and create (events & facilitation/teaching) opportunities for emerging artists to practice their art and gain more skills.

Connexions Workshops  (Fall-Spring) – in partnership with b current
We held after-school workshops in drumming and songwriting/performing in 2010-2011 for high school youth in 2 Western Toronto neighbourhoods. We will continue from October 2011-April 2012.

Uth Day (May 2012 - 2nd annual youth arts mini-festival)
In May 2010, we held the first annual Uth: A Day Experience, which is a day-long kids and youth arts mini-festival. Hosted by b current’s rock.paper.sistahz festival, over 150 kids, youths, and families participated in youth-facilitated workshops, attended performances including Aneemah’s Spot, by Hip Hop artist Motion, and participated in hands-on activities such as t-shirt designing. In it’s second year, this mini-festival will add two more days of activity.
